Who We Are
The Piney Woods Conservation Group is a nonprofit conservation organization in the Pine Belt. Its mission is to conserve, promote and protect the open spaces and green places of environmental or scenic significance in the Pinebelt (Forrest, Lamar, Perry, Jones and Covington Counties).
What We Do
The Piney Woods Conservation Group partnered with Visit Hattiesburg and several other stakeholders to launch Pinebelt Blueways. The Pinebelt Blueways consists of several canoe/kayak routes along the Leaf and Bouie Rivers stretching from Jones County to Perry County – more than 56 miles of beautiful, scenic river to explore! What are you waiting for? There’s nature to be discovered on the Pinebelt Blueways!
PWCG is active in watershed cleanup and litter removal activities and hosts regular community cleanup events to remove litter, recycling what we can. On Earth Day 2025, we launched Kick Glass Hburg - a glass bottle recycling initiative where glass bottles are crushed into sand to be used in a number of sustainable ways. In 2026, PWCG plans to expand water quality monitoring efforts in partnership with MS Water Stewards - coordinated by MSU Extension Service - and to launch Beautify Our Blueways - installing and maintaining litter traps and litter booms in our area drainage ditches to stop litter before it reaches our rivers.
