The Salvation Army Angel Tree program provides Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of children around the country each year. Be a part of this amazing program by volunteering between Dec. 1 and Dec. 17 to organize the gifts that have been donated in preparation for the toy giveaway on December 17. You may volunteer any time between 9am-5pm, but please commit to at least two hours when signing up . When you sign up, please include the date/time you plan on coming.

Our kennel building is getting a much-needed update, and we need your help to make it happen! 

Greater Good Charities is coming to Southern Pines to complete an interior & exterior renovation of the existing kennel building, to include flooring, paint, kennels, and general repairs. Renovations will be completed in two phases to allow for the animals to remain on-site and for life-saving operations to continue.

Hawkins Elementary School is looking for students to volunteer! Tasks include reading to students, helping in the classroom, creating materials for the classroom, sorting library books, creating bulletin boards, and other school related activities.

Support local teens as they take the stage! This free program gives homeschool students the chance to explore performance through acting, improv, storytelling, and stage presence. Volunteers will help with setup, cleanup, and guiding teens during rehearsals and activities in a positive, encouraging environment. No theater experience required, just bring your energy and a willingness to cheer on young performers as they build confidence and creativity.

Help bring creativity to the community! This free art program for homeschool students gives kids the chance to explore different mediums such as drawing, painting, collage, and more. Volunteers will assist with setup, cleanup, and guiding children through hands-on activities in a fun, supportive environment. No art background required -- just a willingness to help kids learn, create, and express themselves.

S.T.E.M. Saturday is a free program that takes place once a month at Town Square Park. This program exposes children to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Volunteering for this program involves setting up tables, assisting with the STEM activity/craft, and breaking down tables/materials at the end of the event.

The free After School Art Class in downtown Hattiesburg is an opportunity for kids ages 6 to 11 to explore different mediums and creative outlets. Volunteering for this program involves helping the teacher set up the classroom, helping children with the art activities, and helping organize/clean the classroom. 

Live at Five is a free, outdoor live music series held in Downtown Hattiesburg. Volunteering with Parks and Recreation at this event includes:

HERE needs office and clerical assistance at their office; responsibilities could range from answering the phone, filing, updating social media, and more! They also need volunteers to assist at outside community events (occasionally and on an as needed basis). The office is located in downtown Hattiesburg. 

HERE is a nonprofit organization that provides education on economic resources available to persons in the housing market. They provide education on grants as well as specialized loan programs for low to moderate income and/or nontraditional credit score individuals.

With the summer sun on full blast, our lawn is growing faster than our pups' tails can wag. We’re in need of a volunteer or lawn care service to help keep our grounds trimmed, so our dogs can enjoy their daily walks in comfort.

We are looking for a few volunteers who would be willing to come weekly, or every other week, to help us with our lawn care needs and who could help us keep the shelter greenery looking trim, tidy, and more welcoming. Specifically we are looking for volunteers who will help us with:

The shelter has a gas push mower and a weed whacker available, but you are also welcome to bring any lawn care equipment of your own that might make the job a bit easier!

YOU DON'T NEED A LOT OF TALENT! Just willing to give time to someone receiving hospice care. We appreciate a gifted musician, however, if you like to just play music or sing along you will still make a difference!

Music and singing bring comfort and companionship to all people but is so appreciated by those who are confined to their homes or a facility. They need you as a volunteer to provide enjoyment and a quality of life. Only an hour or two a week, or even a month, makes a difference in people’s lives.

We will train and support you every step of the way! Volunteers meet all sorts of people in hospice, and each has a story and different circumstances. You will learn so much on how to enjoy the time you spend with them!

If you are a lover of wildlife, this is the zoo for you! As a contact area volunteer, you will oversee guest/animal interactions and monitor animal behaviors at one of our two contact areas. This includes our Touch Africa Petting Zoo with Nigerian Dwarf goats and juvenile Alpine goats, as well as our Wallaby Walkabout with Red-Necked wallabies, Kunekune pigs, and emus. While you're stationed in these areas, you will have the opportunity to build enrichment for the animals, learn to use ethograms to record their behavior for keepers, and share fun facts about our wildlife with zoo guests.

This opportunity requires 12 hours of service monthly to make sure they are familiar with the animals in the contact areas. The zoo operates from 10AM-4PM Tuesday-Sunday and 2 or 4 hour shifts are offered. This is a flexible position and we are happy to work with your schedule!

Host/ Hostess should be able to bend, stand, lift, sit, push, or scoot up to 30 lbs. Host/Hostess will collect donations, stock, and organize.   

 Boots on the Ground by Project G.A.P serves 42 counties and will host Pop-Up events. Host/Hostess maybe asked to travel (THIS IS OPTIONAL). If under 18, parent's written permission must be given prior to the event.  Event last for 4-5 hours plus travelling.

From our weekend adoption events at PetSmart, to giveback nights and donation drives, to festivals and other special events, your enthusiasm and passion to help pets in need will help to make our offsite events an even bigger success.

You'll get to help set up our booth, get the pets all settled into their enclosures, and arrange merch and signage. Plus you'll get to chat with prospective adopters and shower our pets with love and scritches. But the very best part? Helping pets find loving homes and being a part of the process of bringing people and pets together.

Hospice Compassus is currently seeking active military or military veterans to provide comforting visits to veterans in our care, as well as to participate in pinning ceremonies.  Pinning ceremonies are a time to thank our veterans for their services, reflect on any special moments during their time of service, and provide them with a few mementos that express our gratitude for their sacrifices.  

Visits may range from 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on your availability and the need of the patient.  Pinning ceremonies last 30 minutes to an hour.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the USO Louisiana|Mississippi center located on Camp Shelby! The center is open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. In the summer, we offer extended hours Thursday - Saturday from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Our volunteers primarily serve as host to the guests that visit our center. Docents are volunteer zoo educators! The Docent Program’s main goal is to help promote conservation and it is the primary theme in guest education. To achieve this goal, we use fun, educational activities to draw connections between Hattiesburg Zoo animals and Zoo guests. Docents represent the Zoo and support its promotion of conservation efforts. Docents can expect to engage with guests and educate them on the Zoo’s various animals, exhibits, biofacts, and conservation efforts. Docents will be provided with “docent boxes” with learning modules to educate guests on various science topics. While sharing information about animals, nature, and conservation, docents help increase guests’ knowledge and positive views of nature.

Seeking individuals and/or students (marketing, social media, and communication majors) who are looking to gain experience in their field of study. This internship can be tailored to the individuals availability. Also may be performed remotely with proper log and documentation for final reference and hours approval.

As a Disaster Health Services Service Associate, during large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. The purpose of this position is to provide leadership to Disaster Cycle Services workers in performing sheltering activities during preparedness, response, and recovery within a chapter or territory.

Sheltering provides congregate care including safe sleeping accommodations for people displaced due to disaster.

You can help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies, so they don’t have to face tough times alone. The Disaster Action Team (DAT) Auxiliary Team Member is an introductory opportunity to support the local Disaster Action Team with basic tasks during in-person response. Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. Once expedited training requirements are met, a Disaster Action Team (DAT) Auxiliary Team Member can accompany a trained Disaster Action Team Member on the scene to provide comfort and recovery services to those impacted.

Lead your community through recovery. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help your neighbors in need and feel good knowing you made a real impact!

This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services department. To serve on a Disaster Action Team as a worker on a DAT response to provide 24-hour immediate support and assistance to individuals and families who have been impacted by a home fire or other local disaster.

Works as part of an assigned team to respond to local disasters within two hours.

Has access to RC Care and can directly enter case data.

Works with on-scene lead to assess whether additional resources/support are required and communicates those needs to DAT Leadership.

Attends regularly scheduled team/DAT meetings as required by Chapter/Region.

Commits to being available during assigned shifts and communicates scheduling conflicts with DAT Leadership.

We are in need of some active military or veterans to provide visits to some of our hospice patients that are military veterans.  Some of these visits might include simply sitting with them and carrying on a conversation.  Multiple times per year we hold pinning and commemoration ceremonies for the veterans in our care.  During these ceremonies, we like to have another veteran or active military in uniform to assist with the ceremony.  It is so much more meaningful to our veterans to have others that also served take up time with them.

Southern Pines provides all of the supplies and medical care for our foster animals as well as ongoing training and support for all fosters. Fosters receive 1-3 volunteer hours per animal per day depending on the number of animals fostered and the type of care they require.

Centuries of systemic racism, oppression, and injustice have created a world where too many people struggle to meet their basic needs. COVID-19 has only worsened poverty and inequality across the world. Congress has passed historic emergency COVID relief which has the potential to temporarily cut child poverty in the U.S. in half. We must not stop here. The global response to the pandemic is still vastly underfunded, with dire consequences for millions of people. And members of Congress must also understand that poverty was a crisis in the U.S. long before the pandemic. We can’t settle for temporary, modest progress but must call for lasting change.   

You can make a difference right now. 

Maybe you’ve been feeling the urge to do something – but you aren’t sure what. Maybe you feel overwhelmed by this political moment. Perhaps you’ve thought about being an advocate but don’t know where to start.  

As a RESULTS volunteer, you can stand up for issues of poverty, be heard, and make an impact.  At RESULTS, we teach you the nuts and bolts of how to do that. We support you to be an advocate.  

As a RESULTS advocate, you will:  

RESULTS volunteers are effective advocates for solutions to poverty. 

The everyday violence and injustice of poverty, systemic racism, and inequality are rooted in public policy. What discriminatory policies have created, equitable and just policies can help change – but only when we stand up for them.

The Alzheimer's Association is looking for people who enjoy educating others. There are 6 million American's living with Alzheimer's and that number is expected to double by 2050. We are trying to change that trajectory of the disease by educating people on risk reduction and early detection. It's imperative the disease is caught early to qualify for the new treatments becoming available. Help us share information about the disease and resources.


Official description: Community educators are volunteer public speakers who deliver Association prepared presentations on topics related to Alzheimer's and caregiving. These programs could be at churches, senior centers, libraries, etc. A personal or professional connection to Alzheimer's is not required but preferred.

We are looking for members of the Hattiesburg community that can help to represent the Alzheimer's Association at various events. This could be setting up a table with our resource information at community health fairs, senior events, conferences, etc. This could also be connecting us to events, partners, organizations in your community to host educational programs. This could also be sharing a short story or awareness presentation at civic, church or business meetings. This volunteer opportunity is flexible and can be tailored to your interests and time.

People living with dementia and their caregivers need to know about the Association and our resources, help us share that information.

Alzheimer's Association Community Representatives are community engagers that raise awareness of Alzheimer's Association programs, provide basic disease information, and link consumers to Alzheimer’s Association services. Community Representatives:

Meals on Wheels is a cooperative effort between CSI, local churches, and special groups to provide hot nutritious noon meals to their local church members and their friends, who are homebound and cannot provide for themselves.  We have several routes that our volunteers run Monday-Friday.  Volunteers will pick up meals from our office at 301 E 2nd St Hattiesburg, MS 39401 between 10:30-11:00.  Most of our routes have between 8-15 addresses and take approximately 1 hour for delivery.

Our volunteer advocates come from all walks of life and educational backgrounds.  They have an empathetic and non-judgmental attitude and the ability to:

Take 2 help/support lines twice a month (minimum).

Shifts: 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. or 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.​

18 years or older

Complete application/interview (application provided in PDF form on the top of page).

Must pass a criminal background check

Must complete the training provided to you, as an advocate. 

You will be able to teach advocacy skills, educate individuals about resources, empower people, and provide various forms of support to survivors. ​​

You will NOT have to provide transportation or private cell phone numbers to callers/survivors on the support/helpline; you ONLY have to be available via your phone at all times during your shift.
