Gentiva Hospice is looking for compassionate hearts to serve our hospice patients/veterans (no medical work experience necessary - we will train you). Our companionship volunteers can serve in a wide array of ways such as:

Offer Companionship/Emotional/Spiritual Support to veterans on hospice care (in home or nursing facilities) Singing/playing music to veterans/patients Playing games with veterans/patients Watching TV with veterans/patients Sit with patients that are actively passing away (not required)

This opportunity is specifically for those wanting to volunteer in the Collins, Mississippi State Veterans Home. Potential volunteers must complete a background check, drug screening, and a Tuberculosis Skin Test (all provided and paid for by Gentiva). We also provide training for volunteers to ensure that they are prepared for their role!

We have no set schedules or shifts. Our volunteers are able to volunteer for whatever works for their schedule. We can even have volunteers on weekends.

Gentiva Hospice is looking for Pet Therapy Volunteers to provide companionship and emotional support to patients with life limiting conditions and their caregivers. Our patients reside in their own homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities all over the Hattiesburg (Forrest & Lamar County) areas. How you serve and how often is completely up to you! NO medical experience is needed as volunteers - we will train you! Here are a few examples of how our Pet Therapy Volunteers serve:

Engage with our hospice patients through Pet Therapy in any of the following:

Provide companionship and emotional support. Provide a listening ear. Encourage them to share life experiences. Watch TV with them. You choose how you want to serve and how often.PET THERAPY REQUIRED INFORMATION: At this time, we are only accepting dogs and or cats as part of our Pet Therapy Program. Dogs must be registered/certified through the American Kennel Club (http://www.akc.org/events/title-recognition-program/therapy/organizations/). A copy of the required vaccinations, medical evaluation, current certification/registration, in addition to the liability insurance coverage, must be given to the hospice for record keeping purposes before you may start volunteering with us (we can make copies at our office if needed). Required vaccines include Rabies and Distemper. All certifications/vaccinations/insurance must be maintained and valid at all times when volunteering with Gentiva Hospice.

NO medical experience is needed as volunteers DO NOT perform nursing duties or dispense medication. Please leave us your NAME, PHONE NUMBER and EMAIL ADDRESS so we can get in touch with you as soon as possible to discuss the benefits of being a Gentiva volunteer!

Gentiva Hospice is looking for compassionate hearts to serve as grief/caregiver support volunteers for our bereaved and those family that have gone through the experience with hospice (no medical work experience necessary - we will train you). Our grief/caregiver support volunteers can serve in a wide array of ways such as:

Assist with leading/facilitating grief/bereavement/caregiver support groups for the bereaved that have gone through the hospice of experience. Assist with preparation and planning of grief/bereavement/caregiver support groups. Assist with planning, preparation, and execution of hospice memorial/vigil services through the year. Writing sympathy/spiritual encouragement cards to the bereaved. Assist with assembling and distributing grief and bereavement support resources to bereaved family members. Prepare meals to be delivered to the bereaved.

Potential volunteers must complete a background check, drug screening, and a Tuberculosis Skin Test (all provided and paid for by Gentiva). We also provide training for volunteers to ensure that they are prepared for their role.

Gentiva Hospice is looking for compassionate hearts to serve our hospice patients/veterans (no medical work experience necessary - we will train you). Our Veteran-to-Veteran Support volunteers can serve in a wide array of ways such as:

Offer Companionship/Emotional/Spiritual Support to veterans on hospice (in home or nursing facilities) Complete and participate in ceremonies to honor veterans on hospice Run errands/shopping for veterans on hospice Singing/playing music to veterans on hospice  Playing games with veterans on hospice  Sit with veterans on hospice/respite for caregivers (no more than 3 hours at a time) Light housekeeping for our families Providing meals/food to veterans on hospice (based on dietary restrictions)

 

This opportunity for anyone that has or is currently serving in any branch of the United States Military.

Gentiva Hospice is looking for compassionate hearts to serve our in our hospice administrative office (no medical work experience necessary - we will train you). With this opportunity, you will not be visiting/seeing hospice patients. Our administrative volunteers can serve in a wide array of ways such as:

Assist with unpacking and organizing needed patient medical supplies Keeping office supply closets and cabinets organized Answering and forwarding phone calls as needed Completing light housekeeping around the office Sending weekly mailings to patients and their families Shredding and disposing of outdated files and paperwork Assisting with planning and executing our annual memorial services, food drives, or Christmas Gift Drives

Potential volunteers must complete a background check, drug screening, and a Tuberculosis Skin Test (all provided and paid for by Gentiva). We also provide training for volunteers to ensure that they are prepared for their role!

We have no set schedules or shifts. Our administrative volunteers are able to volunteer for whatever works for their schedule (within the office hours of operation). Our office operation hours are from Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. *Sometimes, assignments can be done from home and on weekends as needed.
